Summary
Amos was a farmer from Tekoa, ten miles south of Jerusalem. He was a citizen of Judah called by God to take a message of judgment to Israel. He was a contemporary of Uzziah and Jeroboam Ii. Israel was having military success and becoming prosperous, but at the same time characterized by immorality and idolatry.
